Sean Smith has been a member of Cavan County Council since his first election in 1979. At present he is serving as Chairman of Cavan County Council, a position he held previously in 1989.
Councillor Smith has also chaired several Council Committees such as Roads and Transportation. He is brother of sitting Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. Brendan Smith and son of the late John F. Smith who also served on Cavan County Council.
