Political Record
Elected to Cavan County Council for the Bailieborough Electoral Area in June 2009 on her first attempt, Niamh comes from a long tradition of political service. Her Grand Uncle, Paddy Smith was elected to Dáil Éireann aged 22 and served as a TD and Minister for 54 years.
Both her uncle, Turlough Smith and her cousin Michael Smith have served on Cavan County Council for the Bailieborough Electoral Area. They worked hard to ensure that the voices of their constituents were listened to in the Council Chamber
Niamh wants to continue their hardwork for her constituents on Cavan County Council. Over the next five years, Niamh aims to implement the following:
• Business Support Unit to be established in Cavan County Council to protect and provide local jobs.
• Upgrading roads, footpaths, street lights and broadband.
• Primary School Dental Care.
• Use the Arts as a means of encouraging young people to be involved in their community and using their talents and energy in a positive way.
• Better community services for the elderly and the disabled.
• Better prices for dairy and beef farmers.
