I was born and raised in Swinford and went to school in St Louis in Kiltimagh,Co. Mayo. I was commissioned as an Army Officer in the Irish Defence Forces in 1993 and retired in 2003 after 12 years of service. I served overseas in South Lebanon and as a United Nations Military Observer in a multi-national force in East Timor. I qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and worked in a local firm in Swinford since 2004. I recently set up in partnership with another solicitor when we purchased the well established firm of F.G Phelan & Company in Swinford. I am a keen sportsman and I have represented my County playing Gaelic football at Minor, Under 21, Junior and Senior Levels. I also play, Basketball, Squash and Golf. My other interests include Travelling, Reading, Fishing and Cinema.

I have been an active member of Fianna Fail since I returned to Swinford in 2004. I have acted as Cumman Secretary in Swinford and more recently as Chairman of the Coiste Aituil. I actively helped to increase Cumman participation and facilitated many local meetings in my area.
I have been active in Swinford in recent elections and referendum campaigns and I was instrumental in the organisation of the Battle of the Bands competitions throughout Mayo in the last two years. I am also a committee member of Swinford Comhairle Cheantair.
I was Chairman of Swinford Chamber of Commerce for the past two years and I have assisted and liaised with the local authority and local business interests on a number of important local matters.
