From a very young age I attended Fianna Fail meetings and was very much involved in Politics.
I was co-opted to Carlow Urban District Council in 1999 following the retirement of my late father, Jimmy Murnane. In the following local elections I contested the Urban & County Council elections being successful in topping both polls.
I have successfully retained both seats up to the dissolution of the Urban Council and have topped all County Council elections in the last 4 terms which is a great honour for me and all the people I have represented over the last 16 years.
I contested the general election in 2012 for Carlow Kilkenny Constituency. I was honoured to receive over 5000 first preference votes in the elections.
I see my future in politics in Fianna Fail and will continue to represent the people of Carlow for many years to come through hard work and commitment.
I am the Chairperson of the Housing, Recreation & Amenity & Community SPC in Carlow. Housing is critical at present with incidents of homelessness, housing waiting lists, the mortgage arrears situation and the lack of Social housing.
Childcare, medical issues and third level education among others are all areas I am committed to working hard in.
I am greatly involved in the local community and many local interests close to my heart. I am on the Board of Management of St. Fiacc’s House for the elderly and also Askea Day Care Centre for the Elderly. The care and well being of our senior citizens is very special to me. I also on the Committee for the Irish Wheelchair Association, the Irish Cancer Society, Carlow Tidy Towns Committee and youth projects among many more voluntary organisations.
