I am the eldest of two children of Seamus and Marie Keelan. I have one brother, Fergal. Education: Faughart National School; St. Mary’s College, Dundalk; NUI Maynooth: B.A. (Finance), M.A. (Economics & Finance), H. Dip. Ed.; Trinity College Dublin: (Ph.D.) in Economics. I have published several peer reviewed articles in journals on Economics.
Joined the Seán Lemass Cumann in NUI Maynooth in 1998. Was part of a group who lobbied the Student Assembly successfully to change their rules so that political parties could receive funding from the Student Union.
Cathaoirleach Louth Ogra Fianna Fáil 2006-7.
Member, Philip Daly Fianna Fáil Cumann.
Member Dundalk Town Council since 2009.
Cathaoirleach Dundalk Town Council 2010-11.
I am the third generation of my family to sit on the Town Council after my grandfather, Dermot, and my father, Seamus, who also served on Louth County Council.
I regret very much the abolition of Dundalk Town Council, a body which has been in existence since 1899, which will in my opinion lead to a reduction in local democracy. As Louth has the most urbanised population outside of Dublin sufficient urban representatives must be elected to the newly merged local authority to advocate their needs.
In addition, having contested the 2009 Local Elections to Louth County Council, I am aware of the needs of rural residents and I believe I have the unique candidate mix to suit the complex urban and rural issues of the Dundalk-Carlingford Electoral Area and Louth County Council.
