Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon-Galway Eugene Murphy has said it is shocking that pensioners in Roscommon and Galway are still awaiting a decision in relation to pension increase entitlements.
Deputy Murphy was raising the matter as a pension review is underway in relation to Budget 2012 band rates which has left some pensioners at a financial disadvantage.
Deputy Murphy explained, “The charges brought in by the previous Government in 2012 were wrong and have negatively impacted a lot of pensioners in our area. Fianna Fáil fought to have the Government rectify these issues and thankfully a review was commenced.
“The review must be completed without delay as thousands of people have been denied their entitlement to a full state pension. The slow pace of the review to date is not good enough.
“This issue comes up regularly while out on the doors and as time passes pensioners are growing more and more concerned that their review has yet to yield a decision.
“We now have a situation in which they may have to wait up to two years before a decision is reached. This is not good enough for constituents in Roscommon/Galway or the thousands of pensioners across our island.
“I am calling on the Minister for Social Protection to speed up this process and ensure that reviews are being conducted as quickly and efficiently as possible for those under review in Counties Roscommon and Galway,” concluded Deputy Murphy.
