Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West, Éamon Ó Cuív, has said that pain management services are often over looked and not given the resources required by patients.

He explained, “I have been assisting constituents who have to wait four years before receiving treatment from a pain management clinic.

“Naturally, suffering from chronic pain is life limiting and restricting day to day. For an individual to be waiting four years is cruel and symptomatic of this government’s approach to health care.

“I believe that this should be a priority within the health service as it is disgusting to think of people suffering chronic pain and not receiving any assistance in pain reduction over long periods of time.

“It seems to me that the whole system is full of plans, studies and reviews, but that the problem with most things is that there seems to be an inability to deal with patient centred issues and provide the service to the people who need it,” concluded Deputy Ó Cuív.
