An Ireland for all
Fianna Fáil is committed to creating a more inclusive society and to dismantling barriers across a range of sectors that prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in society. We need to ensure that people with disabilities are given equality of opportunity so they can participate in society to the best of their abilities.
Whilst we welcome the ratification of the UN Convention on the rights of persons with a disability, much more needs to be done if we are to improve living standards and opportunities for people with a disability.
Fianna Fáil’s plan to support people with disabilities
Bring disability into the Department of Social Protection
Transfer responsibility for disability policy from the Department of Justice & Equality to the Department of Social Protection, and restructure the Department to ensure that disability inclusion is a central focus of its work.
Be realistic about costs
Recognise the additional costs faced by those with a disability by increasing specific payments.
Develop initiatives to assist employers in the private and public sector to employ people with a disability and to support people with a disability to take up and retain employment.
