Price deregulation of the electricity and gas markets occurred in Ireland between 2005 and 2014. Despite this, Irish consumers already pay more for gas and electricity than the vast majority of households across the EU.
Along with the upward international gas price trend, average wholesale electricity prices have also increased. There have been household customer price increases announced by all suppliers.
A total of 7 suppliers announced price increases in the first half of 2018.
