My name is Susan Meehan. I am 27 year-old and from Donegal Town in County Donegal. I am a primary school teacher in north County Leitrim, and I have been a member of Ógra Fianna Fáil for six years. In my time within Ógra, I have served as both Secretary and, currently, Chairperson of my local unit.
I am also honoured to hold the role of Campaigns & Events Director on the current Central Officer Board. As we emerge from the pandemic, two of my main priorities for my term are to organise in-person events and roll out campaigns, both new and traditional. I also hope to revive a commemoration group as we move towards the centenary of the Civil War and Fianna Fáil celebrates its republican values.
I will be working very closely with my fellow board members to run campaigns and events in their areas. For example, I will work with Nelius to run a successful recruitment campaign and Sorcha to highlight some international issues. One area that I am very eager to work on is ‘Women in Politics’ and I hope to run women-centred campaigns in areas such a women’s health and wellbeing. I look forward to working closely with the Women’s Network in the coming year.
Overall, I feel that it is important that members have their say and we run member-led events and campaigns to ensure the young people of this organisation have their say in the forever changing world.
