Fianna Fáil Cork East General Election Candidate, Cllr. Padraig O’Sullivan has called on Eirgrid to ramp up the number of public meetings it is organising in the Redbarn, Gortroe and Killeagh areas.

Cllr. O’Sullivan was commenting as numerous residents in the areas contacted him, or spoke to him while canvassing, to outline their concerns about the level of community engagement by the company.

“This project which entails the landing of a very large electricity interconnector from France needs to have the buy in of the local community.

“Despite Eirgrid’s schedule of public meetings in September and October, questions and concerns remain among the communities that may be directly affected by the company’s plans.

“I believe it is essential that Eirgrid revisit their community engagement plans and add more public meetings to the diary.

“While I am aware that a meeting has been provisionally scheduled to take place in the next couple of weeks in Cumann na Daoine, more is needed.

“The company, I believe, has an obligation to provide those concerned with an opportunity to learn more about how this project is developing,” concluded O’Sullivan.
