Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North Frank O’Rourkehas received a commitment from the Minister for OPW, Mr. Sean Canney TD that together with Kildare Co Co, plans will be prepared to design and implement flood alleviation works on the Hazelhatch Road in Celbridge.
‘Flooding along the Hazelhatch Road has had serious effect on the community in that part of Celbridge. Celbridge GAA, Celbridge Tennis Club, the School and 700 houses have been badly affected and we need to get a permanent solution to minimise the risk of further flooding in the area.’
‘I was delighted that last year, we did succeed in securing limited funding to provide some comfort in relation to flood alleviation measures. However, a more substantial investment is required to ensure a more long term solution.’
‘At a meeting that I organised on December 6th last, with Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), Sean Canney TD, Senior OPW Officials, Kildare Co Co , Joe Boland, Director of Services, and Edel O’Brien, the Minister has now committed to putting the required resources in place early in 2017 to investigate the full extent of the problem, design and deliver a solution.’
‘This commitment is great news for Celbridge. Kildare Co. Co., over a 3 month period in early 2017, will carry out surveys, ground water monitoring, water table monitoring etc. to establish all the details and facts so this information can be put into the “Modelling Program” which with other considerations will deliver a permanent solution to the flooding problem in Hazelhatch.’
‘I will continue to keep in touch with all the relevant stakeholders, and Cllr Michael Coleman, to ensure that we continue to make progress on this project. I also want to compliment Kildare Co Co officials who have put substantial efforts into securing a solution for this problem.’ Concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
