Local Fianna Fail TD, Frank O’Rourke, has again highlighted the importance of providing a ring road for Clane, after meeting with a number of concerned Clane residents last Friday.

‘Following a meeting with a number of residents in Clane, I proposed that priority should be given by both Kildare Co Co and the Department of Transport to complete the Clane ring road.’

‘The number of Heavy Goods Vehicle passing through the town of Clane is unacceptable. In my view, and in view of many in Clane, we need to take the HGVs out of the town centre. This can be done in stages, the first stage should complete the section between the Dublin road and the Kilcock road. This is only a 400m section and if this was completed, it would significantly alleviate the situation.’ stated Deputy O’Rourke.

‘I saw myself last Friday, as parents were bringing their children to school, as people were trying to negotiate the traffic to go to work, the HGVs were also trying to navigate their way through the town.’

‘The Government in June approved a proposal to establish a Local Infrastructure Fund of €200m to provide public off-site infrastructure to stimulate an increase in private housing. Providing a ring road, will enable the construction of new houses and also alleviate traffic congestion in towns like Clane. In my view this fund should be used for projects like the Clane ring road.’

‘Kildare Co. Co. have the opportunity to secure some of this funding for projects like the Clane ring road. I will continue to raise the importance of projects like for the communities of Kildare. ’ concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
