Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North Frank O Rourke has called on Kildare County Council to prioritise the construction of a new Clane Link Road, connecting the Dublin Road with the Kilcock Road.
Deputy O’Rourke raised the matter at a Kildare County Council management meeting last Friday and stressed the need for such a link road to be developed without undue delay.
“Clane town centre continues to attract a large number of HGV’s which is causing considerable traffic congestion and presenting a significant hazard for vulnerable road users,” said Deputy O’Rourke.
“A number of years ago, plans were put in place for the construction of a ring road around Clane to reduce the number of disruptive HGV’s travelling through the town centre. We must resurrect these plans now. In particular, a link road, connecting the Dublin road in Clane to the Kilcock Road should be put to the top of the agenda again.
“Having this link road would take a significant number of HGV’s out of the town centre which would maintain the vibrancy of the town while making it a safer place for pedestrians and motorists.
Deputy O’Rourke added, “I see first-hand the detrimental effects that arise as a result of a constant steam of HGV’s travelling through the heart of the town. This is something that people raise with me on a weekly basis when I hold my clinic in Clane. I want to assure people that I will continue to raise the issue with Kildare County Council to ensure that a focus is kept on this important project for Clane.”
