Clare TD, Timmy Dooley has said that the announcement by the OPW of its decision to allow Clare County Council proceed to detailed project level assessment and design of the CFRAM flooding measures at Springfield, Clonlara is nothing more than a stalling tactic.
“On the face of it, this looks like a positive development, and that’s what the Government wants us all to think.
“However, this is, in fact, another roadblock being put in the way of the needed remedial works being delivered.
“We know there is an issue in the area, we know how many homes have and will be affected, and we know there will be a cost associated with.
“The OPW by making this decision is attempting to avoid making a decision, and to spend the money that is desperately needed to protect homes in the area.
“Dressing up this decision as a positive is very disingenuous. This is simply the State using bureaucracy and red tape to avoid making a decision and providing the funding needed to deliver these remedial works.
“This project is the right thing to do. Of course, let’s make sure there is value for money, but there is no need for this extra level of red tape.
“The OPW need to get on with the job, provide the funding, and let this project go to full design stage,” concluded Dooley.
