Fianna Fáil Justice Spokesperson Jim O’Callaghan TD has condemned the ongoing failure of the Garda Commissioner to provide the Policing Authority with the further detail on the current crisis requested by the Authority.

Deputy O’Callaghan commented, “The fact that the Garda Commissioner has still not provided complete information to the Policing Authority, almost one week after the full scale of this problem first emerged, is completely and utterly unacceptable.

“We know from Garda management’s failure to inform the Policing Authority about this mess in the first instance that there appears to be a serious problem within the Gardaí when it comes to understanding and respecting the role of the Authority.

“This needs to be addressed immediately and all papers and information sought by the Policing Authority must be furnished to the Authority by the Garda Commissioner, as required by legislation, without any further delay.”
