Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare South and Chairman of the Oireachtas Education Committee Fiona O’Loughlin has congratulated the 3,000 students in Kildare who are receiving their Leaving Certificate results today.
Deputy O’Loughlin encouraged the students to avail of support services in the coming days as they weigh up their options.
Deputy O’Loughlin said, “Today is an incredibly exciting day for tens of thousands of students right across the country who are receiving their Leaving Certificate. It is the culmination of two years of hard work and signals the end of their second level education. It is a huge achievement for all who are receiving their results today and marks the beginning of the next chapter of their lives.
“Many students can feel overwhelmed by the experience, and it’s important to recognise the emotional strain on student’s mental health during their final summer of secondary education. I encourage students to speak with experts that are on hand today and over the coming weeks to offer support and help in their decision making.
“Kildare students, who are worried or concerned about their Leaving Cert results, can avail of The Examination Helpline 2017. The 1800 265 165 Freephone helpline is open from 10 am on results day. The helpline will take calls from students, parents and teachers seeking advice and information on what choices are available to students, and will continue until Wednesday, August 23.
“It’s also important to recognise that while exams are important, they do not define who you are. The Leaving Certificate in particular is not the be all and end all that many think. There are many options to pursue further education, and many access routes. Students should weigh up all of their options before making a final decision,” concluded O’Loughlin.
