Fianna Fáil TD for Wexford James Browne is calling for the old Wexford Garda Station to be made available to community groups.

In reply to a parliamentary question tabled by Deputy Browne, Minister Pascal Donohoe confirmed that the “OPW Property Management Division will examine the property to establish if there is any alternative State use for it … On completion of this examination a decision on the future use of the property will be made”.

Deputy Browne has called for a change of use of the State building.

“Wexford’s new Garda station is scheduled to open in September.  This means the existing Garda station on Roche’s Road will not be needed by the OPW and I am calling on the Department to hand over the property to Wexford County Council for community purposes”, explained Deputy Browne.

“There are a number of sporting organisations in Wexford like the Na Fianna Boxing Club and Wexford Academy of Martial Arts are without a permanent home.  The old Garda station provides a perfect solution to this problem – it’s ideally located and should stay in public use.

“I hope that the Office of Public Works will transfer the property to Wexford County Council so that local community and sporting groups can benefit from it”, concluded Deputy Browne.
