Fianna Fáil TD for Cork East, Kevin O’Keeffe has welcomed the announcement of over €10 million in funding to develop the tools necessary to identify the most efficient cows from which to breed the future generations of the national herd.
Deputy O’Keeffe was commenting as Science Foundation Ireland launched its Starting Investigator Research Grant scheme.
“Under the scheme, 20 different research grants will be funded through 10 different research bodies including Teagasc.
“This will be beneficial to the Irish beef sector as Dr. Sinead McParland from Teagasc at Moorepark has received funding.
“The beef sector is facing significant challenges at present, and anything that can be done to make it more productive for farmers must be welcomed,” concluded O’Keeffe.
