Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Sport Kevin O’Keeffe is wishing the Irish
Special Olympics team the best of luck ahead of their participation in the
Special Olympics World Summer Games, which get underway this Friday.

91 Special Olympics athletes have travelled to Abu Dhabi for the event.

Deputy O’Keeffe said, “Ireland has always had a strong connection to the
Special Olympics World Summer Games and this year is no different, with 200
athletes and volunteers from Ireland taking part in the event in Abu Dhabi.

“Athletes will compete across 12 sports – athletics, badminton, basketball,
bocce, bowling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, kayaking, swimming and
table tennis.

“The Special Olympics motto, ‘Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave
in the attempt’, is at the heart of the Games and I have no doubt that all of
our athletes will do us proud in Abu Dhabi”.
