Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Willie O’Dea has welcomed the announcement that the Director of Corporate Enforcement Paul Appleby will remain in his post for six months.
“I was extremely alarmed earlier today to hear that Mr. Appleby would be leaving his post at the end of February. It is crucial given the scale and nature of investigations being undertaken by the ODCE into corporate crime in the banking sector that a proper transition takes place from Mr. Appleby to his successor.
“My colleague Dara Calleary has already highlighted the fact that there are now less than half the Gardaí working on the criminal investigation into activities in Anglo than a year ago.
“I welcome the announcement that Mr. Appleby will remain in his role for up to six months to allow the Government to appoint an appropriate successor and to allow for a smooth transition in this important position.”
