Fianna Fail General Election Candidate in Dublin South West, Charlie O’Connor has requested today that the Chief Executive of South Dublin County hosts a reception to acknowledge the great success of the Irish Senior Women’s Hockey team.
The team came second in the world at this year’s Hockey World Cup which concluded at the weekend and have become the first Irish team in history to reach a World Cup final in their respective sport.
The local SDCC Councillor said, “It’s fair to say that the whole country got behind this team during the late stages of the tournament. There’s no doubt that our own community is thrilled for Firhouse native, Graham Shaw given his passion and dedication to coaching this team to a standard.
“Graham is well known locally for his involvement with the Glenanne Hockey Club here in the parish at St Marks Community School.
“This whole team have done tremendous work in promoting the sport up and down the country and will have inspired many to get involved in a club. It’s hugely important that recognise that and thank them all and in particular Graham, for giving us all a lift.
“I am confident that Daniel McLoughlin and Council Officials will move to arrange an appropriate reception to acknowledge the teams World Cup success on behalf of all Council members,” he concluded.
