Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice and Equality, Jim O’ Callaghan has expressed his dismay at the latest gun crime in West Dublin.

A man in his twenties was shot several times at Shancastle Park in Clondalkin on Tuesday evening.

The man was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputy O’Callaghan said: “The prevalence of gun related violence has continued to intensify, and it is essential that all possible resources are provided to protect the public. It is apparent that these shootings will continue unless there is adequate intervention.

“The Minister for Justice needs to immediately examine what extension of resources can be given to the Gardaí to bring this outbreak of serious violence under control. We can never accept gun crime as an aspect of everyday life. No child or young person growing up in any community should be led to believe that firing a gun is reasonable.

“I would urge anyone with information on this attack to come forward and contact the gardaí,” concluded Deputy O’Callaghan.
