Fianna Fáil Dublin spokesperson Darragh O’Brien has condemned the overnight attack on Gardaí in Swords which has resulted in the serious injury of a female officer.
Senator O’Brien commented: “The ramming of a garda car in Cian Lea estate in Swords was a violent attack which has left a female officer with a very serious injury. I know the community will share my outrage at this attack and condemn it.
“This attack serves as an unfortunate reminder that gardaí put their safety on the line in order to protect the public every day and they deserve our support. We have previously called for the law to be strengthened to protect emergency workers and published a Bill proposing a minimum five year jail term for anyone convicted of assaulting or threatening the life of an on-duty garda, nurse, ambulance worker or fireman.
“I wish the Garda concerned a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with her family and colleagues at this time.”
