Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Defence Seán Ó Fearghaíl has congratulated Commodore Mark Mellett on his appointment to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff (Support).

Deputy Ó Fearghaíl commented: “Commodore Mellet has a long and distinguished record of service in the Defence Forces having commanded the LÉ ORLA, the LÉ CIARA and the LÉ EITHNE.  He has received citations for service in Afghanistan and Lebanon and while Captain of LÉ ORLA in 1994 he received the Distinguished Service Medal for the role his ship and crew played in the detection of drug smuggling – becoming the Navy’s second officer to receive the medal.

“I want to wish Commodore Mellet well in his new post as Deputy Chief of Staff for Support and thank him for his continued service to the Defence Forces.”
