Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has today confirmed that the tender recommendation and accompanying documentation in respect of the Finn Valley Leisure Centre Project has this week been submitted to the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport by Donegal County Council.
Senator Ó Domhnaill said, “It is now vital that approval of the recommended tender is given by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in line with the commitment of the previous Government.”
“The previous Government approved funding of €3.8million to this project with the additional funding required coming from Donegal County Council.
“The project comprises of a 25 metre 5 lane pool, sauna, steam room, plunge pool and family area. This facility when constructed will provide an excellent family facility to the entire Finn Valley area.
“The site for the Ballybofey-Stranorlar or Finn Valley Leisure Centre (FVLC) is located on the grounds of Finn Valley AC and I wish to pay a particular tribute to Finn Valley AC, my colleague Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan and all the other current and previous Local Councillors together with Council Officials for taking the project to this stage, without that effort locally the project would not have progressed to this stage.
“It is now essential that the Government provide approval for the recommended tender so that the project can proceed to construction. I have communicated directly with the Minister on this issue and I have requested that immediate approval is given so that the project can progress to construction in the coming months,” concluded Senator Ó Domhnaill.
