Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Agriculture, Éamon Ó Cuív, has expressed his condolences on the death of former Irish Times journalist Seán MacConnell.
Deputy Ó Cuív commented: “Seán always had a deep understanding and feeling not only for agriculture but for rural Ireland and its people.
“Seán was also a very skilled observer of the agriculture scene and coming from Fermanagh, he appreciated the fact that many farmers have to make a living on small farms and on poor land. His appreciation of agriculture was inclusive of all farmers large and small; on good land and bad land.
“Speaking to my colleague Brendan Smith I know that Seán was always a strong advocate for the farming and food industry in Ireland.
“He will be sadly missed from the agriculture scene in Ireland. I wish to pass on my condolences to Seán’s wife Pat; daughters Kate and Siobhán and son Eoghan.
