Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West, Éamon Ó Cuív has expressed condemnation at the wanton attack on a mosque on the old Monvea Road, Galway.

He commented, “I know the Ahmadiyya community very well and have attended many of their events over the years. They are totally committed to non-violence and peace and their motto is “love for all and hatred for none”.

“This break-in and vandalisation of their mosque is a vile act which has no place in our society. It is shocking that a mindless attack like this would take place.

“Imam Noonan and all my friends in the Ahmadiyya Muslim community have my support. Their community in Galway have made themselves a part of our society and always welcome people of different faiths to their celebrations. Each year they organise a peace conference in Galway to which they invite people of many religions. This crime only generates fear and division where there should be none

“We understand security will be tightened around the mosque due to this targeted crime. There is a fear attackers may return. It is shameful that in modern Ireland people will feel frightened attending their place of worship.

“We want to express our support with the Ahmadidyya Muslim community in Galway and ensure they have my support during this time,” he concluded.
