Fianna Fáil TD for Galway-West, Éamon Ó Cuív, has said the Government must increase their efforts to support rural Ireland. To date no funding has been issued under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

He commented, “The Department of Rural and Community Development has been allocated €52m for the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund in 2019. Despite the fact that the first call for applications for the fund closed at the end of September last and that the first successful projects were announced in November 2018, no actual spend has taken place to-date.

“The Government have continued their call for projects under the fund. A second call for applications went live in April and “shovel ready” applications are requested by the Department before August 6th.

“Once again, the Government are promising a lot more than they are delivering, which has been a feature of the Government in general and particularly of the Department and Minister of Rural Development,” concluded Deputy Ó Cuív.
