VistaMed expansion a welcome boost for Carrick-on-Shannon – Mooney

Published on: 24 October 2011

Leitrim Fianna Fáil Senator Paschal Mooney has welcomed the announcement that Irish medical devices firm VistaMed is to expand its operation in Carrick-on-Shannon, nearly doubling its workforce in Co Leitrim.
“This is a major boost for Carrick-on-Shannon and for Leitrim in general, particularly amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of jobs at Bank of America’s MBNA operation in the town,” said Senator Mooney.
“VistaMed currently employs 93 people at its two Leitrim plants in Carrick-on-Shannon and Roosky.  The medical devices firm is to invest a further €7.2 million in its Research and Development and Manufacturing operations in Carrick-on-Shannon, with the creation of 79 jobs over the next three years.
“I wish to congratulate VistaMed’s Managing Director Paddy Mulholland for establishing such a high quality manufacturing facility in Co Leitrim in the early 1990s. The decision today to expand the operation so significantly represents a major vote of confidence in what Co Leitrim has to offer.
“Great credit is also due to Enterprise Ireland for recognising the importance of developing the indigenous sector. These high-value jobs will help provide long term stability for the local economy,” concluded Senator Mooney.
