Troy calls for immediate Dáil statement following Air Ambulance incident

Published on: 19 June 2012

Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy has called on Minister Alan Shatter to make an immediate Dáil statement following after forced ‘heavy’ landing of Air Ambulance helicopter.

Deputy Troy said: “This Emergency medical service was launched just a couple of weeks ago and the helicopter was on an emergency call-out from Custume Barracks today when it was forced to make a heavy landing, effectively a controlled crash landing, in County Tipperary.

“This is a very worrying incident and I am relieved that none of the three people on board were injured.

“In light of seriousness of this incident I will be calling on Minister Shatter to make a statement in the Dáil tomorrow to outline what it known about the incident already. The Air Accident Investigation Unit will have a role to play in examining this incident in detail, alongside the Air Corps, and I look forward to that information being made available. However in light of the seriousness of the incident and the need for public confidence in the air ambulance service I am urging the Minister to outline what is known about this incident so far in the Dáil as a matter of urgency.”
