Sports clubs disadvantaged by lack of information workshops in advance of Sports Capital Grant deadline– O’Keeffe

Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Sport Kevin O’Keeffe has said that he is deeply disappointed that the Department of Sport failed to provide enough application workshops for clubs and sporting organisations intending to apply for the Sports Capital Grant programmes.

“The deadline for applying to this important scheme is fast approaching, and there is deep anxiety in many organisations about the entire process.

“I’m led to believe that only eight workshops took place; three in Dublin, and one each in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Athlone.

“For the amount of clubs interested in applying, this has been wholly inadequate.

“In light of the fact that there was no funding round last year, the Department should have known that there would be an increase in interest from potential applicants.

“These information workshops are very useful for club officials tasked with making the application.

“While it’s too late for this round of the scheme, the Minister should ensure that additional workshops are provided in more locations across the country to ensure more clubs have the information they need to make a successful application,” concluded O’Keeffe.
