Senator Alison Comyn Welcomes €1 Million Investment for Ardee Castle Regeneration
“This is fantastic news for Ardee and for County Louth,” said Senator Comyn. “I want to sincerely thank Minister Dara Calleary for recognising the importance of this project and allocating this vital funding. Ardee Castle is one of Ireland’s most historically significant medieval buildings, and this investment will play a central role in securing its future.”
The €1 million investment will support a wide range of works, including:
• Structural conservation and restoration of the castle’s historic tower;
• Development of visitor access and interpretive features;
• Public realm improvements and landscaping;
• Educational and community engagement initiatives.
Senator Comyn continued, “This funding will not only help preserve a key piece of our national heritage, but it will also bring real benefits to the town of Ardee — supporting tourism, creating local jobs, and strengthening the cultural life of the county.”
The project has already been awarded €2.147m in July 2019, and this €1m is a an additional amount to help meet increased costs. The project is expected to act as a catalyst for further development in Ardee, with potential for additional support through national heritage grants and local partnerships.
“I look forward to working with local stakeholders and the wider community to ensure this project delivers lasting value. Thanks again to Minister Calleary and his Department for backing Ardee and recognising the importance of investing in our heritage,” she concluded.
