Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Higher Education, welcomes over €41m under Devolved Capital Grants that was announced this week by Minister for Higher Education, James Lawless.

The Devolved Capital Grant is a financial grant that can be used to support a number of works to higher education institutions such as small-scale building works, health and safety works, energy efficiency, access upgrades, refurbishment and equipment purchases or renewal including ICT.

The announcement comes as an overall package of over €41 million for 19 higher institutions around the country including 12 universities, 2 Institutes of Technologies, and 5 smaller colleges.

Connolly says that this investment will ‘drive and deliver more sustainable campuses’ and ‘will ensure our campuses are upheld to highest possible standards’.

“I am absolutely delighted to be informed today by my party colleague and Minister for Higher Education that over €41m has  been provided to colleges and universities across the country under the Devolved Capital Grant scheme.

“This funding will not only help drive and deliver a more sustainable campus into the future but will ensure the campus will be upheld to the highest possible standards.

He added that Ireland has a ‘serious pipeline of talented students’ coming through, and believes upcoming students deserve the same and even better opportunities and resources as they go through our education system.

“The provision of this funding will further enhance campuses allowing them to invest significantly on any minor capital works to ensure the infrastructure on site is fit-for-purpose and remain aligned with climate objectives. We understand the challenges that exist for our third level institutions in meeting climate targets, and this grant is there to support them.

Concluding McGreehan said:

“In Ireland, we have always taken great pride in our education system, with us being one of the best educated countries in the world,” he said

“Fianna Fáil is the party of education. We will continue to provide the necessary resources and funding required to continue to invest in our third level sector by ensuring they have the best facilities and equipment.
