Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West Éamon Ó Cuív has dubbed this government as the government of reviews and delays. The Minister for Social Protection has detailed to the Deputy the establishment of an Interdepartmental Group to explore the most appropriate organisational arrangements, including which department should host the Community Employment Social Inclusion schemes.

Deputy Ó Cuív commented “This is a government which has led to the standstill of vital services. They have now set up a group to make a decision on which department should host community employment social inclusion schemes. I do not understand why they just can’t make them work better where they are

“I was informed that the group to make this decision will comprise of senior officials from various government departments. However, it is obvious that this group has not even commenced working as the Minister confirmed to me the process of seeking nominations from the Departments to this group is only underway. However as of now the group do not even have terms of reference

“It seems that this government cannot make even the simplest decision without setting up complicated structures to examine them, instead of making the schemes that are there work more efficiently.

“I am now calling on the Minister to deal with this issue as a matter of urgency and to set a deadline by which this report will be put together,” concluded Deputy Ó Cuív.
