Moynihan calls on HSE to address PPS number issue with new medical and drugs payment cards

Written by David Lynch | 21 October 2022

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Aindrias Moynihan, has called for an urgent resolution to an issue impacting people who have received new medical and drug payment cards, which is preventing them from successfully applying for European Health Cards.

Deputy Moynihan, who has brought the issue to the attention of the Department of Health and the HSE, commented, “The on-line application system for European Health Cards is not working for those people with newly issued medical cards or drugs payment cards, as their PPS number is not now on these new cards.”

The Fianna Fáil party spokesperson on public health added: “This European Health Cards on-line application system is not recognising the PPS number for people applying. Surely the medical card department should have looked at what services would be affected by this new rule with not displaying PPS numbers on new cards now being issued?”

In response, the Department of Health stated that they have contacted the HSE for a response as soon as possible.
