McConalogue welcomes A5 road commitment in Fianna Fáil Manifesto
16 February 2016
Fianna Fáil candidate for Donegal Charlie McConalogue has welcomed the inclusion of the A5 as a core part of the Fianna Fáil general election manifesto.
“The A5 road has been delayed for the past number of years due to a series of problems. It’s a critical part of the future of infrastructure in Donegal and an important part of building strong cross border links.
“People across the North West region have been frustrated by the delays in the project due to financial issues and planning problems. The failure to build the road is a lost opportunity for the area and is damaging trade and tourism. I have pressed for the A5 to be included in Fianna Fáil’s vision for the future of Co. Donegal and as part of our plans for building a strong all-island economy. We are fully committed to this project and seeing it to fruition. Our plans are fully costed and we have allocated funding to ensure that the Irish government lives up to its commitments on the project.
“Fianna Fáil is committed to building an Ireland for all. We are the only alternative to this government of broken promises and have laid out a fully costed vision for the future of Donegal. Our plans for the A5 forms part of our policies to help strengthen cross border links and the North West region.”
