Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe, has welcomed measures introduced in Budget 2021 to support self-employed people impacted by the pandemic.

They will now be able to earn 480 euro per month while retaining their full Pandemic Unemployment Payment. Tax due in 2019 and preliminary tax for 2021 can also be deferred for a year without interest or a penalty.

Deputy McAuliffe said: “I have been engaging extensively with representatives from sectors such as the taxi industry on the supports needed for the self-employed and I had met the Taoiseach and other Minister’s to discuss the need for a step down payment for people who cannot return to work and expect to earn an adequate living while also losing their PUP.

“I am pleased to see Budget 2021 take account of the needs of this sector and put extra supports in place for them,” concluded the Deputy.
