Govt slash and burn policies leave North Dublin exposed to serious crime – Clifford-Lee

-Minister fudges while 7 burglaries reported every day-

Fianna Fáil candidate for Dublin Fingal Lorraine Clifford Lee has called on the Minister for Justice to introduce mandatory minimum sentencing for anyone convicted of burglary.

“Dublin Fingal has seen a 17.6% cut in Garda numbers over the past five years. There has also been a 26% increase in reported burglaries in Dublin North over the past two years with an average of 7 burglaries a day now being reported.

“Fianna Fáil published a Bill recently under which there would be a mandatory minimum of three years in jail for anyone convicted of burglary and a minimum of seven years jail time for those convicted of a third burglary offence. We are committed to strengthening the Garda force to at least 15,000 members.

“These are measures that will deter criminals. The Minister needs to step up and deal with the sharp increase in crime. The slash and burn policies of the past five years have left the entire community of North Dublin vulnerable to callous criminals.”
