Funding approved by the NRA for the Dungloe/Glenties Road – Pat the Cope

Published on: 31 January 2012

Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has confirmed that €7.3 million has been approved by the NRA for major works on the Dungloe to Glenties Road.

The first stage of the project will be the realignment of the road from Cloughwally to Boyoughter including the removal of the Meenacarn bends.
€6.3 million will be made available for this stretch of road.

A further €1 million has been approved for the planning of other sections of the road between Dungloe and Kilraine, Glenties. This is a clear indication that the NRA will continue on a yearly basis to carry out work on further stretches of this road.

This scheme is a pilot scheme for the new Type 3 Single Carriageway road type.  This scheme will be primarily on-line widening with some isolated offline sections where the existing alignment is poor.

The works which are due to commence by mid Feb will be carried out by contract on behalf of the Council.

All of the preparatory word including design and land procurement has been carried out by the Donegal National Roads Design Office.
