The Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has paid tribute former Mayo Fianna Fáil TD John Carty, who died last night at the age of 63.

Deputy Martin commented, “I was deeply saddened to learn of the death last night of my former colleague and friend John Carty. John was one of life’s true gentlemen. He was great company, great fun and always had time for everyone.

“John Carty was a man of the people. I remember how proud he was the day he was elected a TD in 2002. He was truly honoured to represent the people of Co Mayo in Dáil Éireann. He was a diligent and dedicated public representative and took his job as a TD, a Senator and a Councillor very seriously. John was much loved across Co Mayo and within the agriculture and small business communities in particular. He will be sadly missed.

“I want to extend my deepest sympathies to John’s wife Kathleen, their 8 children, extended family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
