FF Leader hails ‘unsung hero’ of the Peace Process

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD has paid tribute to Fr Gerry Reynolds following his passing today at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.  Fr Reynolds, originally from County Limerick served the people of Belfast for more than thirty years at the Clonard Monastery in West Belfast.

Deputy Martin commented, “Father Gerry Reynolds is one of the unsung heroes of the Northern peace process.  Quietly working alongside Fr Alec Reid, he was one of the key intermediaries who helped coax those involved in violence onto the democratic path.  That was absolutely critical work that has never been properly recognised.

“Fr Reynolds’ family and the Redemptorist community have lost a loved one and a very close friend.  Our thoughts go out to his family, his colleagues and his very many friends across the country.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
