€12m Navan rejuvenation plan a positive development – Cassells
03 May 2017
Fianna Fáil TD for Meath West Shane Cassells says the news that Navan town is set to undergo a €12m rejuvenation plan over the coming years is a positive development.
Deputy Cassells made the comments after Meath County Council published details of its ‘Navan 2030 Plan’.
Deputy Cassells said, “The people of Navan have been pushing for a rejuvenation plan for the town for many years now. I have worked on the issue during my time as a Councillor on Meath County Council and highlighted the need for such a plan on many occasions. It’s positive to see that the plan is now at the point of delivering real change for the people of Navan.
“The rejuvenation of Navan will allow the town to realise its true social and economic potential. The plan will ensure that the town is able to cope with increased population in the years ahead and will strengthen economic growth in the area. I’m glad to see that many of the key concerns of local people have been raising are addressed in this plan, especially around the proposals to make the town more pedestrian and cyclist friendly and to link the historic and modern quarters. I also welcome the emphasis that the plan places on supporting the retail sector in the town alongside the local tourism industry.
“The focus must now shift to ensuring the timeline associated with the plan is adhered to. I look forward to working with Meath County Council and the National Transport Authority to ensure that the true potential of this ambitious plan is realised.”
