Dublin needs to clean up its act - McAuliffe

Written by Julie Ní Ghábhaín | 12 June 2023
Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin North West and former Lord Mayor of Dublin, Paul McAuliffe, has criticised Dublin's Local Authorities for the poor standard of street cleaning and litter picking in the city over recent days.

“I have had numerous complaints from residents as well as visitors to Dublin about the cleanliness of the city, particularly the city centre and social media is unfortunately full of similar experiences. While we have been enjoying the recent fine dry weather, unfortunately it has exposed a lack of washing of our city streets. On top of a litter problem this creates a bad image for visitors to the city and is unpleasant for those of us living and working in Dublin.

“Dublin's councils, as well as bodies such as Irish Rail who are responsible for our train stations, need to be more proactive in ensuring high footfall areas are maintained more regularly, particularly during dry and warm weather.”
