Dooley calls on Luas drivers and staff to rethink strike action
24 March 2016
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport Timmy Dooley has called on Luas drivers and staff to reconsider their decision to strike on Easter Sunday and Monday. Thousands of families due to attend the 1916 centenary commemorations have had their plans seriously inconvenienced as a result of the action.
Deputy Dooley commented, “I am disappointed by the decision of Luas workers to proceed with the strike action this weekend. The country is marking an historic occasion with what will be a once in a lifetime series of events, scheduled over the two-day period. Families from across Ireland have made plans to come to the capital to take part in the commemorations, and sadly it is these families who will be disproportionately affected by this action.
“I am calling on the workers and the unions to seriously reconsider their decision and to postpone their action. Their grievances are with the operators of the Luas and not the travelling public and I am urging them not to spoil this major national event, which is the set piece of our year of commemorations”.
