Deputy Shane Moynihan TD paid tribute to a century of Fianna Fáil this evening as he chaired a special centenary session at the party’s Ard Fheis.
The discussion focused on 100 years of Fianna Fáil and the party’s contribution to Irish society and public life over the past century. Deputy Moynihan was joined on the panel by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, political analyst Dr Eoin O’Malley, historian Anne Twomey, Dr Brian Murphy, and Sinéad McCoole.
The panel reflected on the party’s role in shaping modern Ireland, including landmark achievements such as the introduction of free education, the development of Bunreacht na hÉireann, Ireland’s place within the European Union, and the Good Friday Agreement.
Speaking following the event, Deputy Moynihan said:
“Whilst this is of course a special time for our party, I think conversations like this highlight the lasting impact Fianna Fáil has had on our nation over the last 100 years.
“We discussed defining moments in Irish history including the formation of our Constitution, joining the European Union, the introduction of free education, the Succession Act, and the Good Friday Agreement, to name just a few. These achievements not only define our party, but have also helped shape the Ireland we know today.
“It is a great honour to serve as Chair of the party’s Centenary Committee. While this weekend we will discuss our vision for the future, from our grassroots members right through to party leadership, it is equally important that we reflect on how we got to this point and the role Fianna Fáil has played in building modern Ireland.”
