Benefits of the HPV vaccine cannot be ignored – Kelleher
31 January 2017
Fianna Fáil’s Health Spokesperson, Billy Kelleher has said that “it’s clear that there is unease among many parents of girls who are due to receive the HPV vaccine about potential side effects. This unease needs to be addressed otherwise lives could be lost.
“As a parent myself, I, like them, worry about the health of my children, but we must trust the full spectrum of Irish health professionals, from the WHO, Irish Cancer Society, the Chief Medical Officer and general medical advice which confirms that the HPV vaccine is safe and can save lives.
“The HPV vaccine protects against two types of HPV that cause 73% of all cervical cancers.
“For parents who are anxious about the vaccine, and their child’s heath, I say this: speak to your GP and seek medical advice or consult with the Schools’ Immunisation team and they can answer any worries that you may have.
“Their primary concern is the health and wellbeing of your child, and they will advise you to give your child the vaccine.
