Back to School Allowance a crucial life-line for Dublin families
19 June 2017
Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin Mid-West John Curran is urging families across the Capital to apply for the Back to School Allowance ahead of the September deadline.
New applications under the scheme opened on June 16th and will close on September 30th. Those eligible are encouraged to get their applications in early to avoid delay.
Deputy Curran commented, “Although primary schools are yet to break for summer, many parents will be looking towards the cost of bills that will arise in the coming weeks. This is a pressurising time for young families’ as they grapple with the expense of uniforms, sports gear, school books, stationery and other essential school equipment for the impending school year.
“The Back to School allowance is a crucial life-line for families in Dublin. The payment for children aged 12-22 has returned to €250, while the payment for children between 4 and 11 stands at €125.
“It is important that the tens of thousands of families in Dublin who are eligible for the allowance this year submit their applications to the Department of Social Protection to ensure that they avail of the financial support.
“While those who were previously in receipt of the payment will automatically receive an update this month, I wish to remind families who do not automatically receive the payment that they can still apply.
“This support, however modest, will help parents cover the expense of a new school year,” he concluded.
