10 additional Gardaí assigned to Kildare – O’Rourke

Published on: 06 December 2016

Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North Frank O’Rourke has revealed that 10 additional Gardaí have been assigned to the Kildare division.

Deputy O’Rourke made the comments following a meeting with the Garda responsible for the Kildare division, Chief Superintendent John McPolin. The new Gardaí began their placement in Kildare on Monday 5th December.

“I recently met with Garda representatives to discuss policing concerns in Kildare and to seek an update on the number of Gardaí assigned to the county. During the meeting it was confirmed by Chief Superintendent McPolin that an additional 10 Gardaí were to be assigned to Kildare with a start date of 5th December,” said Deputy O’Rourke.

“This is a positive development and will further strengthen the Garda presence in the county. Fianna Fáil has been instrumental in securing additional resources for An Garda Síochána. The Confidence and Supply arrangement between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael commits to increase Garda recruitment to provide an additional 2,000 Gardaí across the country. We are now starting to see the impact of this agreement on the ground with the assignment of additional Gardaí to Kildare.

“Fianna Fáil will continue to push for additional Gardaí to be assigned to Kildare. We also need to see investment in Garda equipment to modernise the force and make it adaptable to the new challenges that it faces. This is something which we will continue to push for in the months ahead under the Confidence and Supply Arrangement,” concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
