New figures show 18 month waiting list target still not met – FF
Responding to new data from the Department of Health, Fianna Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher commented this evening: “While the December figures as expected are better than November, the fact remains the Minister’s target of no-one waiting more than 18 months by the end of June has still not been achieved which obviously means that the 15 month target for December 2015 was not met either.
“Up to the end of 2014 of course, the target for inpatient/day cases was 8 months, and for out-patients it was 12 months. So despite Minister Varadkar moving the goalposts, the target has still been missed.
“It is likely that the figures will improve a little next month but with Minister Varadkar having approved a cut in the hospitals budget in 2016, we can expect that the situation will again deteriorate after the election.
“Our health service is in crisis and Fine Gael and has no plan to address it. We need a fresh start in health and a new approach that delivers real change and restores dignity for patients, not more of the same from Fine Gael.”
